Hoxie Gorge Review selected a short story by Elmira College student Leslie Monterrosa '24 for its fall 2023 edition. The publication includes innovative poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, and is based at the State University of New York College at Cortland.
In a few words, Monterrosa’s story, entitled “Family Portrait,” paints the relationship between a mother and daughter. The mother relies on her daughter, telling her to look after her younger siblings. At the same time, the mother pushes her daughter to excel in school. While the daughter gives up friends and free time to be responsible, she also contends with being called selfish.
Hoxie Gorge is published in the Fall and Spring, and accepts unsolicited submissions of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction.
